Abstract:
In order to determine the potential of zero total charge (pztc) we measured charging current transients upon immersing Au(100) into an ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (BMIPF6). In the current–time transients two sections could be identified, one attributed to double-layer charging, the other to spurious Faradaic or adsorption processes. The pztc, as determined from the short-time section, was found to be 0.4 V vs. Ag/AgCl.
